Year: 2025
Initially conceived for the Miami Vibes AI Footwear Challenge, this project evolved into a fully realized concept that pushed my skills in AI-assisted design, parametric design, 3D modeling, and material innovation. I used Leonardo AI to generate early concept imagery, refining design direction before transitioning into 3D modeling. The sole was modeled in Rhino and Grasshopper, while the upper was developed in Icad3D+. Final photorealistic renderings were produced using Twinmotion, ensuring a high-quality presentation. Beyond design execution, I also handled project documentation and presentation, ensuring a cohesive narrative that communicated both the sneaker’s aesthetic vision and technical innovation.

Miami’s identity is built on layers of history—ancient civilizations, striking architecture, and a constant dialogue between nature and the built environment. Oolite Oorigin draws from these influences, channeling the Tequesta people’s deep connection to the land, the enduring mystery of the Miami Circle, and the geometric elegance of Art Deco architecture. More than a sneaker, it captures the rhythm of Miami—a city shaped by history, yet constantly redefining itself. Every element of Oolite Oorigin is a balance of past and future, where tradition and technology converge to craft a sneaker that is both visually striking and environmentally responsible.
Hemp weave pattern detail
The upper embodies both durability and environmental responsibility. Inspired by Miami’s Art Deco facades, the woven hemp texture features an intricate geometric weave pattern, grounding the sneaker in the city’s architectural heritage. Hemp was chosen not only for its strength and breathability but also for its biodegradability—echoing the Tequesta people’s philosophy of minimizing impact and living in harmony with nature. The lightweight weave adapts to movement while providing breathability and support. Over time, the hemp softens, molding to the wearer for lasting comfort and a more personalized fit.

Piñatex overlay detail
Contrasting the upper’s neutral base, the pineapple leather overlays introduce soft pastel tones inspired by Miami’s Art Deco architecture. Their flowing shapes, echoing Miami’s mangrove roots, create a dynamic structural element that reinforces the sneaker’s form. Made from Piñatex, an innovative material derived from pineapple leaf fibers, these overlays repurpose agricultural by-products while offering a lightweight resilient structure. Naturally breathable and water-resistant, Piñatex enhances comfort while reducing the sneaker's environmental impact. Its use also nods to Miami’s history with pineapple farming, connecting the sneaker’s material choices to the region’s agricultural heritage. The organic lines of the overlays soften the geometric hemp weave, blending natural and architectural influences.

Inspired by the Miami Circle and the natural formations of oolitic limestone, the 3D-printed sole marries historical inspiration with modern performance. Its porous, stone-like texture not only references Miami’s geological foundation but also enhances flexibility and reduces weight. The high-contact areas of the tread feature a subtle Art Deco-inspired pattern, a nod to Miami’s architectural legacy while reinforcing traction and durability.
The 2-part sole, fabricated from a bio-based thermoplastic polyurethane, consists of a removable outsole that clips onto the interior midsole. The modular design allows users to print a new outsole and swap out the worn outsole, extending the sneakers life and reducing waste. This reinforces the project’s cradle-to-cradle philosophy.

Artificial Intelligence played a crucial role in the project’s development, from research and ideation to guiding the visualization process. AI tools assisted not only in exploring historical and material influences but also in generating early design concepts. ChatGPT provided cultural and historical insights, while Leonardo AI produced a range of visual iterations that explored texture, form, and structure. These AI-generated images served as a foundation for further refinement, guiding the creation of a detailed 3D model, which was then used to generate photorealistic renderings. Leveraging AI accelerated iteration, allowing design concepts to be refined quickly and efficiently into a cohesive final vision.
